ABDC advocates for the ASIC Business Register sale process to include conditions that would enable better academic access to the data currently collected by ASIC. Having access to this ASIC data, would enable academic researchers to provide good, relevant and useful research of public benefit.

ABDC along with other key business academic organisations in Australia – the Australian Centre for Financial Studies (ACFS), The Economic Society of Australia, the Centre for International Finance and Regulation (CIFR), SIRCA, Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand (AFAANZ) and the Financial Integrity Research Network (FIRN) – have requested that the Department of Finance ensures that data from the ASIC Business Register be made available at no (or at a minimal) cost to the academic community. Enabling better academic researcher access to the information gathered by ASIC would help Australia realise better public policy, social and economic benefits – informed by good academic research and relevant local evidence and data.
